I have always loved to travel. I’ve always wanted to write. I also love to eat. I now have the privilege of being able to do all three, by ‘throwing in the towel’ so to speak and travelling full-time with my partner Mike, writing about our experiences, and eating new and exotic (but not too exotic) foods. One day I’d love to get paid to travel (don’t we all), own a chateau in France, be fluent in Italian, French and Spanish, and be able to eat anything I want without a) getting food poisoning, and b) getting fat. More than anything, I hope to encourage others to take more time out in their lives to travel (if not their whole life!) by sharing our experiences as to how easy and affordable long term travel can be.

Six Months on the Road

Half a year… say what?! It’s absolute madness to think we’ve been away now for half a year. It feels like just yesterday that we left for our flight to Sumatra and here we are six months later, in a little fishing town on the coast of Kerala in India. The last month of travel has been full on. Whilst… Read more →

Munnar – Trekking through Tea Plantations

Munnar (pronounced ‘Moon-are’) is a hill station located 1600 metres above sea level in the Western Ghats range of mountains in Kerala, India. It’s also Southern India’s largest tea-growing region – with over 50 000 hectares of its hilly terrain covered in tea plantations. Munnar was not part of our original plans for India – in fact, we hadn’t even… Read more →

Cruising Kerala’s Backwaters

After a month travelling India’s hectic north, one of the activities we were most looking forward to in Kerala, one of it’s southern states, was exploring its beautiful backwaters – waterways and canals that sprawl for over 900 kilometres. One of the most popular ways to enjoy the backwaters is to rent a houseboat. With our hearts set on this… Read more →

Udaipur – Are We in India or Europe?!

There was something very different about Udaipur from the moment we arrived. It lacked the very distinct chaos that had become the norm elsewhere in India to date. Jumping off our late train, we were approached by one – just one – auto-rickshaw driver who knew exactly where out guesthouse was and offered a reasonable rate first up. As we… Read more →

Visiting the Magical Taj Mahal

Visiting the Taj Mahal was always on our bucket list. When we were putting together an outline of our travel plans earlier this year and decided on a few months in India, a visit to Agra to see the Taj Mahal was the first activity we locked in – and something we’ve been looking forward to since we set off.… Read more →

First Impressions of India So Far

We truly were expecting the very worst when we flew into India earlier this week. The stories from other travellers about how incredibly filthy it is, animals and excrement lining the streets, scams on every corner – that it was one of the most frustrating places to travel. Then there’s also the news in the media – the violence and… Read more →
